You won’t know exactly when menopause will hit you: “Hi, I’m here to let you know that your hormone levels are going down, and your wish has been granted! No more periods!”. That isn’t the worst!
We know, we know… it’s all about the symptoms! And they can get very uncomfortable, but we have good news for you. According to the Association of Reflexologists (AoR), Reflexology can help you manage them better.
Wait! What? How do I know menopause has arrived?
You might be thinking life is passing fast and you’re probably craving to know more about those symptoms you might be having.
When it starts during perimenopause, your body will alert you by providing physical clues like hot flashes, headaches, low libido, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, palpitations, inconsistency in your periods, and it can happen months or even years before menopause arrives.
Menopause happens when you haven’t had a period during a year, and you aren’t pregnant or sick.
Reflexology and menopause
Relaxation and exercise therapies can be very helpful. Holistic treatments can help reduce hot flushes and other menopausal symptoms.
Reflexology is effective for reducing hot flushes, sweats and, sleep disturbances, a Randomized Controlled Trial was carried out to test this in 2016. Women who had symptoms of menopause were given Reflexology treatments twice weekly for six weeks and reported felt much better (Gozuyesil & Baser, 2016).
Reflexology can also improve women’s quality of life. The same 2016 trial reported that women felt better in their social and sex lives, as well as sleeping better.
Another study in 2011 showed that menopausal women who were having difficulty sleeping slept much better after receiving Reflexology (Asltoghiri & Ghodsi, 2012).
